the weather here in yorktown, virginia is really similar to himi summer weather. i feel SO natsukashi! first of all, bc we went out on the boat with grandmom and grandad this morning, just like we used to when i was a kid. second of all bc we were fishing, which i did a fair amount of in japan this year. and third of all bc it was so dang hot!
allen and i have made a ton of fun memories these last few days on our road trip extravaganza. i'll post photos once we're back in NY, but for now i want to write down [ie type] some things that have struck me this week...
*in less than 24 hours i heard people speaking spanish, italian, and english. for some reason i forgot that languages other than japanese existed in the world.
*the ultimate american summer life [in my own mind, at least] is speeding down the highway with music blasting and the windows rolled down. my college bud marty has a sweet mustang and we took a trip to the beach in it. from the miniscule backseat, i was reminded of the joy that summer cruising brings me <3
*family is forever. i dont think i expected to pick up so easily with my aunt, uncle, cousins and grandparents after an entire year. but it feels like nothing ever changed.
*i like hugging. i've gotten more hugs in the 10 days since i arrived home than i got in an entire winter in japan. while i really appreciated the lack of couple-PDA this past year, i didn't appreciate the lack of hugging culture. i missed it.

i just got back to the u.s. after spending a year in japan. i was an assistant language teacher with JET in himi city. basically, i loved my life. now i'm in the next phase of life which includes moving to philadelphia and taking baby steps toward eventually having my own elementary classroom. i love to travel the world & take photos documenting my adventures <3
